1.【址:a g 9 559⒐ v i p】1"If she was turned out where would she go?" inquired Jessie, a trifle anxiously.
2."Here we are, Sara," said Captain Crewe, making his voice sound as cheerful as possible. Then he lifted her out of the cab and they mounted the steps and rang the bell. Sara often thought afterward that the house was somehow exactly like Miss Minchin. It was respectable and well furnished, but everything in it was ugly; and the very armchairs seemed to have hard bones in them. In the hall everything was hard and polished--even the red cheeks of the moon face on the tall clock in the corner had a severe varnished look. The drawing room into which they were ushered was covered by a carpet with a square pattern upon it, the chairs were square, and a heavy marble timepiece stood upon the heavy marble mantel.
3.Sara flew at her and hugged her. She could not have told herself or anyone else why there was a lump in her throat.
4."I knew he wanted it for his children," said Sara. "I do believe I could make friends with him."
5."Well, papa," she said softly, "if we are here I suppose we must be resigned."
6.The pupils bowed ceremoniously, and Sara made a little curtsy, and then they sat down and looked at each other again.

计划指导

1."I wish someone lived there," Sara said. "It is so close that if there was a little girl in the attic, we could talk to each other through the windows and climb over to see each other, if we were not afraid of falling."
2."And mines with diamonds in 'em!" said the cook. "No savin's of mine never goes into no mines--particular diamond ones"-- with a side glance at Sara. "We all know somethin' of THEM>." "He felt as my papa felt," Sara thought. "He was ill as my papa was; but he did not die."
3."I did not expect to see you tonight, Ermie," Sara said. Ermengarde hugged herself in the red shawl.
4."Neither have I," she said.
5."But oh, miss," cried Becky, "wait till she's told you what they are! They ain't just--oh, miss, please tell her," appealing to Sara.
6.Miss Minchin was scandalized. She glanced from one figure to the other.

推荐功能

1."Neither do I--to speak the truth," admitted Sara, frankly. "But I suppose there MIGHT be good in things, even if we don't see it. There MIGHT>"--DOUBTFULLY--"B good in Miss Minchin."
2."Perhaps you can FEEL if you can't hear," was her fancy. "Perhaps kind thoughts reach people somehow, even through windows and doors and walls. Perhaps you feel a little warm and comforted, and don't know why, when I am standing here in the cold and hoping you will get well and happy again. I am so sorry for you," she would whisper in an intense little voice. "I wish you had a `Little Missus' who could pet you as I used to pet papa when he had a headache. I should like to be your `Little Missus' myself, poor dear! Good night--good night. God bless you!"
3.And as she sat in this silence there came a low tap at the door-- such a low, humble one that she did not at first hear it, and, indeed, was not roused until the door was timidly pushed open and a poor tear-smeared face appeared peeping round it. It was Becky's face, and Becky had been crying furtively for hours and rubbing her eyes with her kitchen apron until she looked strange indeed.
4.He was beginning to be excited. He always became excited when his still weakened brain was stirred by memories of the catastrophes of the past.
5. "Where have you wasted your time?" she demanded. "You have been out for hours."
6.The Diamond Mines Again

应用

1.Mr. Carrisford sat and bit his nails as he looked into the glowing bed of coals in the grate.
2."Come and sit in the window-seat with me," Sara went on, "and I'll whisper a story to you."
3.Ermengarde stumbled up from her footstool. She shuffled across the attic in her bedroom slippers, which were too large for her. Her eyes and nose were pink with crying.
4、But she did not look up. She sat with her little black head in her arms for some time. She always sat like that when she was trying to bear something in silence. Then she got up and went slowly to the bed.
5、"DEAR Sara!" murmured Lavinia.

It certainly was an odd thing that happened to Sara. She had to cross the street just when she was saying this to herself The mud was dreadful-- she almost had to wade. She picked her way as carefully as she could, but she could not save herself much; only, in picking her way, she had to look down at her feet and the mud, and in looking down-- just as she reached the pavement--she saw something shining in the gutter. It was actually a piece of silver--a tiny piece trodden upon by many feet, but still with spirit enough left to shine a little. Not quite a sixpence, but the next thing to it-- a fourpenny piece.

    Sara felt a little awkward.

"Oh, Donald," (this was Guy Clarence's name), Janet exclaimed alarmedly, "why did you offer that little girl your sixpence? I'm sure she is not a beggar!"

Miss Minchin turned back from the door in increased indignation. This was worse than anyone could have dreamed of its being.

{"It is a long time since I saw a nice place from the inside," was the thought which crossed her mind.

    "It ain't nothin' but flannin, an' the flannin ain't new; but I wanted to give yer somethin' an' I made it of nights. I knew yer could PRETEND it was satin with diamond pins in. _I_ tried to when I was makin' it. The card, miss," rather doubtfully; "'t warn't wrong of me to pick it up out o' the dust-bin, was it? Miss 'Meliar had throwed it away. I hadn't no card o' my own, an' I knowed it wouldn't be a proper presink if I didn't pin a card on-- so I pinned Miss 'Meliar's."}

    Sara made a little bow.

Sara knew nothing about the fact, but from that time the Large Family was as profoundly interested in her as she was in it. Faces used to appear at the nursery windows when she passed, and many discussions concerning her were held round the fire.

"You know they put her head on a pike and danced round it," Sara explained. "And she had beautiful floating blonde hair; and when I think of her, I never see her head on her body, but always on a pike, with those furious people dancing and howling."

{"Suppose I had dry clothes on," she thought. "Suppose I had good shoes and a long, thick coat and merino stockings and a whole umbrella. And suppose--suppose--just when I was near a baker's where they sold hot buns, I should find sixpence--which belonged to nobody. SUPPOSE> if I did, I should go into the shop and buy six of the hottest buns and eat them all without stopping."

"Ever so much better since the last time I came up here and you explained the conjugations. Miss Minchin could not understand why I did my exercises so well that first morning."
